This is one of the nicest examples of Horner (attributed) dining chairs I have seen in a while. Not only do you have carved griffin armrests but caryatid figures on the seat backs as well. Very fine carving detail. There are 7 total chairs, one of which is an armchair. These are being sold out of Chester, NY by William J. Jenack Auctioneers and they unfortunately are not providing in-house shipping on this set. Bidding starts at $250 and expected range is $500-$800 which should easily get blown away or else my dining room will suddenly have 15 total dining chairs. More details here.

As usual, you can always count on Bradford’s Antiques to bring a great R.J. Horner piece up for sale. In this case, it is pieces – plural, with a great full dining set of quartersawn oak. This set is in unbelievable restored condition and would be the highlight of any dining room, heck, highlight of any house. One thing about this table that I don’t like relative to other tables from Horner that I’ve seen – the skirts on the table leaves are not carved to match the table ends. Not a problem, really, just a nice-to-have. Bidding starts at $5,000 but the final value will be far north of that. Make sure you bid by May 10th if you are interested! This six piece carved dining chair set may not be Horner but it is of a quality level and look that would suggest it could be attributed to him. There are carved griffins on either side of the chair back and Jenny Lind’s face at the center of the top crest. Ebonized finish and cranberry red fabric. Current bidding is at $2,025 and bidding ends April 3rd.
